An European male missionary in an exotic tropical country characterized by sensualism in its art and traditions witnesses by accident the medical examination of a naked young woman in a charity hospital where he was supposed to bring spiritual comfort to the patients.
The missionary develops an erotic obsession in connection with that intimate hospital episode, which comes in collision with his moral principles of staying away from any form of carnal possession.
The film spectators will witness the exteriorization of his internal conflict - richly illustrated by the advanced medical context which has generated it - as he so much falls victim to the desire of possessing, that he ultimately fears that he himself is possessed.
